It’s a well known fact that the five people you spend the most time with will directly influence your life, from your happiness level, to your health and weight, to your actual income level? Studies have shown that your circle of influence has a penetrating effect on your success. With this in mind, it is critically important that you be mindful of who you allow to be around you on a daily basis. Who is in your circle of influence? The people you choose to be around just might make a huge difference in your ability to reach your goals.
So, have you thought about the five people closest to you? If you do a quick review of your life, you might actually realize why you’ve had such a difficult time achieving your goals. If you are surrounded by people that seem to have made a habit out of failing, it is likely that you have done so as well. Think about where you spend most of your time and who you connect with on a daily basis. It can be online or in person. What influence have those people had on you to succeed or in holding you back? Have you picked up habits, traits, and behaviors from them? If you are unhappy with the results you have thus far, it may be time to find a new circle of influence.
By identifying and connecting with a consciously selected circle of influence, your life can change drastically. Instead of being weighted down by people in your life, you can be encouraged, inspired, and rejuvenated. Choosing a new circle of influence is as easy as looking at your own life and deciding on which areas in you would like to grow in. For instance, if you want to lose weight and become more active you will need to find a person or group that has the same goal. This can be as simple as subscribing to and reading a health & fitness blog or joining a fitness club in your local area so you will be surrounded by like-minded people. Determine the areas in your life that you would like to grow and then find a circle of influence that reflects those goals.
Does this mean you will have to abandon your friends, family members, or colleagues that aren’t supporting your goals? Should you cut them out of your life completely? Of course not! Succeeding is not about being heartless or cruel to others. But, it does mean that you will have to limit their influence in your life. If you’ve got friends who are critical or constantly put down your efforts to change or improve, it just might be time to take a break from them. If your family members don’t have the same goals as you, find other people in your life who do share the same goals.
It’s not about deleting people from your life entirely (unless they are harming you in some manner). It is about finding the best circle of people and relying on them for inspiration and direction. Take out some time to evaluate your circle of influence and systematically create your own circle of influence with progressive and uplifting people that will help you become the best version of you.
